Weldments - Default Configurations When a weldment feature is added to a part, the software creates two default configurations: a parent configuration, Default, and a derived configuration, Default. The weldment feature designates the part as a weldment and enables the weldment environment. Instead, it sets up a design functionality environment. Adding Structural Members Adding Groups Weldments Toolbar Weldment Feature The weldment feature is not a feature in the same sense as a fillet or an extrude. It is available in parts that have weldment or sheet metal features. Profiles and Cut Lists Cut Lists A cut list is an item in the FeatureManager design tree that groups the same entities of a part together. When creating or editing structural members, you can select the configured library features in the Structural Member PropertyManager.Ĭ Groups A group is a collection of related segments in a structural member. For example, instead of having 50 separate library feature files for square tubing sizes, you can have one library feature file with 50 configurations that you can control by a design table. You can add different configurations of a structural member and save them as one profile in a library feature. You can also configure multiple weldment profiles of structural members as library features. On the Weldments page of Document Properties, clear Create derived configuration. Before adding weldments to a new document, click Options (Standard toolbar). On a per document basis, you can suppress the automatic creation of the configuration. The software also creates two default configurations in the ConfigurationManager: a parent configuration Default and a derived configuration Default. When you create the first structural member in a part, a weldment feature is created and added to the FeatureManager design tree. You can also add items such as gussets and end caps using tools on the Weldments toolbar.įor more information about weldments, see SOLIDWORKS Tutorials: Weldments by clicking Help > SOLIDWORKS Tutorials. Then you create structural members containing groups of sketch segments.

You use 2D and 3D sketches to define the basic framework.

Weldments Weldments functionality enables you to design a weldment structure as a single multibody part. You can try out Drew for 14 days for free.© 1995- 2017 Dassault Syst èmes. A flat pattern view for sheet metal bodiesĭrew also finds the best sheet scale and fits all the views on the sheet.ĭrew even rotates straight bodies so they lay flat on the sheet:.With one click, you create a sheet for each unique body. So we created Drew, a drawing automation add-in for SOLIDWORKS. We found creating weldment drawings pretty boring. Now just add a projected view and a few dimensions:Ĭreate a weldment drawing in seconds with Drew This inserts a new view that is not linked to existing views on your sheet. Just click Model view > double click your weldment part > Select Bodies > select one body. It creates too many part files and nullifies the advantages of weldments. So the part updates when the weldment sketch updates. This method creates a new part that is linked to the original weldment. Create a drawing sheet per weldment body (we prefer this one). The standard way of creating the first sheet of a weldment drawing is something like this: Two options for a drawing sheet per weldment body I just designed a frame for a side table to show you how it works. Suppose you have a few strangely shaped weldment members in your design. Here’s a good video by GoEngineer on the weldment basics. And it only takes a single drawing to fully define a weldment. This lets you quickly sketch, build up and redesign complex frames made from standard pipes and beams. This sketch can be a 2D sketch or a 3D sketch.

Then you project this profile along another sketch. It uses profile sketches (*.SLDLFP files) for the cross-section of the profile. SOLIDWORKS weldments let you build welded assemblies out of standard profiles like square and round pipe.
